About

Mountain Scope was built to fix the problem of checking webcams in the Alps for good hiking, skiing, or climbing conditions. Locating a suitable place on a map, searching for a webcam in that area that has an image of that place, figuring out where the route would go on the webcam image — all this takes a lot of time in the planning phase. This tool utilizes the over 400 online available webcams by Roundshot (https://www.roundshot.com/) to create a more usable experience.

Map Location - The exact locations of all webcams are marked on a single map and can be interacted with to pull up the webcam image.

Image Location - Every webcam image also displays the location of more webcams in the vicinity, making it easy to choose a different viewing angle.

Image Mapping (beta) - All webcam images are also overlaid onto the map itself, drawing the webcam image directly on the mountains and valleys. This is supposed to help with the evaluation of current conditions. At the moment the mapping is still only roughly accurate.

At the moment it is unclear if I will get permission to use the images by Roundshot. If you are interested in trying it out, please contact me to grant you access to the dev version.
